Enjoy endless summer fun and adventures with the National Trust in Herefordshire.

 

The summer holidays are well underway and National Trust places in Herefordshire provide the perfect opportunity to get outdoors and closer to nature.

At Berrington Hall, near Leominster, families can don their sea legs and discover ‘Capability’ Brown’s magnificent serpentine pool with boating on the lake every weekday throughout August. They can also embark on a daring adventure around the grounds on a ‘Robinson Crusoe’ trail, before dressing up in the mansion and playing cricket and croquet on the lawn. Visitors can also soak up the summer sun and enjoy musical performances throughout August from inside the ‘LOOK! LOOK! LOOK!’ pavilion, designed by internationally renowned artists, Heather and Ivan Morison. Check out Berrington’s website for further details. ‘Patina’ by Hereford College of Arts also encourages families to seek out and discover various works of contemporary art through the gardens and pleasure grounds, running every day of the holiday. Berrington are also inviting visitors to a Party in the Pleasure Grounds on Saturday 25 August. Families can tuck into a delicious barbeque, play games on the lawn and even have a go at Lego Builders in the pavilion.

At Brockhampton Estate, near Bromyard, families can discover what it meant to ‘Make do and Mend’ during the Second World War on their summer holiday trail. Blitz Spirit outdoor games will also be available throughout the summer, including giant jenga, noughts and crosses and croquet. Then on Monday 27 August, families can soak up the bucolic beauty of the moated manor house with a delicious Bank Holiday barbeque. With around 1700 acres of historic parkland, woods and dingles, there’s so much to explore at Brockhampton this summer.

Lots of playful summer adventures await at Croft Castle, near Leominster. Families can fly away to Neverland on a magical ‘Peter Pan’ trail around the gardens, running all holiday. Then on Monday 20 August at 2pm, families can pack up their picnic hampers for an outdoor theatre performance of ‘Peter Pan’ by Immersion Theatre. Quoits and badminton will be available all holiday in the walled garden, as well as dressing up in the castle and endless summer adventures in the mini-castle and natural play area.

The Weir Garden, near Hereford, is the perfect spot to relax and play away the days throughout the summer holiday. Families can discover the garden as its transported back to its heyday of the 1920’s with some beach-inspired fun. A section of the beautiful riverside garden will be filled with sand for all to enjoy and families can follow a trail through the garden inspired by a 1920’s summer fair. Throughout the summer there will be ‘50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾’ Wednesdays, perfect for discovering summer wildlife. Colourful pink deckchairs are also dotted conveniently along the riverbank, ready for that well-deserved picnic.
