A Christmas invitation – Advent at The Laskett with Perennial
Perennial, the charity helping people in horticulture, invites you to attend a special event for Christmas – Advent at The Laskett.
Guests will enjoy Advent treats amid festive lighting. Mulled apple juice from The Laskett’s own orchard will be served along with mulled wine, hot chocolate and mince pies. Seasonal plants and bulbs will be on sale.
The remarkable year-round garden at The Laskett is the autobiographical creation of Sir Roy Strong and his late wife Julia Trevelyan Oman created from a four-acre field in the idyllic countryside of Herefordshire. The Laskett’s Christmas Orchard was planted in December 1974 and was the preserve of Julia who assembled a small collection of historic apples with an emphasis on those grown in the Marches. Sir Roy generously gifted the garden to Perennial in 2021.
“There’s nothing quite like Christmas at The Laskett. As a year-round garden, there are many plants like Cyclamen that will be in flower; in shades of red and white they give a dainty nod to Christmas and they’ll be available for guests to buy. The hedging and topiary highlight the garden’s form and structure in the winter setting the scene for the Snowdrops, Hamamelis, Sarcococca and Mahonia. You can get lost in their fantastic scents and beautiful foliage, not to mention the striking stem colour of the Cornus. We very much look forward to welcoming you to Advent at The Laskett.”
David Lewis: The Laskett’s Garden Manager.
The garden will be open to the public for both morning and afternoon gatherings on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 December from 10:30am -1pm and 2pm – 4:30pm – booking is essential.
