By the Wye wins Tourism & Leisure Start-Up at the 2021 Wales Start-Up Awards.
Hay on Wye based family-run glamping business By the Wye was the big winner at the Wales Start-Up awards. It beat off competition from The Secret Beach Bar & Kitchen in Swansea, Henry’s of Chepstow and Black Mountain Bespoke Breaks to take home the award for Tourism & Leisure Start-Up Business.
The Wales Start-Up Awards showcases the best new businesses in Wales every year and are only open to Welsh firms less than three years old. Companies from across Wales offer up their hard work from the past 12 months for judgement by some of the biggest names in the industry.
The event provides the industry with a stunning showcase of talent, expertise, inspiration and insight for new businesses all across Wales.
Hosted by Professor Dylan Jones-Evans, it was a great evening for By the Wye, which picked up the award for Tourism & Leisure Start-Up.
By the Wye is a family run off-grid glamping site hidden in the heart of Hay on Wye in rural Mid Wales. The site offers five safari tents within five acres of ancient woodland running along the banks of the River Wye. Safari tents come with roaring campfires, beautiful beds, sumptuous sofas, flushing toilets and fully equipped kitchens. It is considered the ultimate in luxury glamping and enough to tempt even the most reluctant of campers out into the woods.
2020-21 has been an impressive year for By the Wye. The 18month old luxury glamping business has seen a number of high-profile showcases on TV including Adam Henson’s ‘Family Farm Diversification’ and ‘Campervanning with Merton & Webster’ as well as reviews in the National Geographic. Conde Nast, The Telegraph and Fabulous Mag.
‘Especially impressed by the incredible family team behind By the Wye and the high standards it is creating for the sector through its outstanding offering. It is an amazing business and a brilliant role model for others in the Welsh tourism industry to follow’.

It’s an honour to win this award and to have our achievements over the last 12months celebrated. Our team work so hard to offer our guests the best holiday possible, so I am delighted that our efforts have been recognised by the industry by being awarded the Wales Start-Up Awards.”
