The Lion Gallery was opened in 2005 in Leominster to provide a showcase for the best in contemporary craft work and fine art from the region and has since gone on to show nearly 500 makers. You’ll find a range of jewellery, ceramics, glass, textiles, wood and mixed media alongside original prints, photographs and some paintings. There is also a great selection of greetings cards and wrapping papers. There is a programme of regular exhibitions as well as an ever changing range of stock from makers young and old – new and well established national names. Two bakers. One professional, one novice. Brought together through a passion for Real Bread and a mission to share it with the local community. Peter Cook was Head Baker at Price & Sons in Ludlow for over 20 years, winning Best Speciality Loaf at the Baking Industry Awards and many other top industry awards. Shona Kelly, a former marketer in London, swapped the city for the country and an office for a bakery. A home-baker turned pro, learning on the job as she went. They opened their doors in March 2014 and have since won several Awards, including the top prize at the World Bread Awards and Best Food Producer at the Visit Herefordshire Awards for Excellence for the past two years. You’ll find no added nonsense in their loaves. Just four ingredients – organic flour, water, yeast (mostly wild) and sea salt. Marches Makers Festival is an exciting new arts festival is held on the Early Spring Bank Holiday in the Marches border town of Kington from 4-6 May 2019. With over 90 exhibitors in 12 venues the Marches Makers Festival offers a wonderful variety of art and craft. Fast becoming a major art event in the county, the festival offers local artists and makers an opportunity to showcase their work and reach a wider audience. The Hay Makers is a co operative gallery run by 9 designer makers. It was established in the 1987 and has gained an enviable reputation for selling an exciting and varied selection of high quality crafts at affordable prices in a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. As well as showing the work of the makers which includes pottery by Pat Birks and Pauline Paterson, printmaking by Victoria Keeble, wire sculpture by Gail Stokes Hayward, carved and lettered stone by Caitriona Cartwight, painted silk ties by Sue Forrest, embroidery by Dawn Cripps, felt and papier mache by Jenny Chippindale and turned bowls by Chris Armstrong, the Hay Makers also has regular exhibitions of work by some of the finest contemporary makers throughout the year. Kington Markets are held every Friday, and on the 3rd Saturday of every month. Friday is local food, produce and crafts from 9:00 – 1:00. The monthly Art, Craft and Vintage Saturday Market starts at 9:00 and goes through until 3:00. Here you will find local artisans selling their work, some actually turn out this work right before your eyes, and you can commission bespoke items.
