It’s almost autumn half-term, the weather is still clement and there are lots of great activities to enjoy this October in Herefordshire. So why not book the family in for an experience day or two to make sure you make the most of the break. In readiness we’ve put together eight great half term activities for you and the family to discover. So what are you waiting for?
The Viking Games, Middle Cefn, The Stables, Hereford HR2 0JH
Head out into Herefordshire’s very own Viking country the ‘Golden Valley’ and bask in the gorgeous surroundings while you and the family immerse yourselves in some traditional Nordic games. But don’t worry they’ve all been adapted for the twenty-first century and are very entertaining. You can unleash your competitive Viking streak and try your hand at Axe Throwing, Archery, Bullrings, Kubb, Molkky or Stige? Who in your family will be crowned the true Viking warrior?
If you prefer paintballing or laser clay shooting then you’ll be pleased to hear you can do these activities too. The Viking Games is a fantastic day out that everyone will enjoy.
Queenswood Country Park and Arboretum, Dinmore Hill Leominster HR6 0PY
The amazing 123 acre ancient woodland at Queenswood Country Park & Arboretum is just wonderful to walk round and the views are just breath taking. With its fantastic arboretum, a 47 acre tree collection with over 1,200 rare and exotic trees, this really is the place to be if you adore wildlife.
This autumn families are invited to Queenswood to participate in their annual Pumpkin Patch Trail. Twelve wooden pumpkins have been hidden throughout the woods ready for your family to find. Running from the 25th October to 1st November this wonderful trail is suitable for all ages.
It’s a great opportunity to get out in the fresh air and enjoy the scenery and wildlife at Queenswood. So why not take a picnic too.
Wye Valley Falconry
If you and your family enjoy being outdoors then you’ll love spending time with Wye Valley Falconry deep in the beautiful Herefordshire countryside. Rated by TripAdvisor as the No.1 outdoor attraction in Herefordshire, Wye Valley Falconry offers enthralling opportunities to fly and handle birds of prey, raptors and owls as part of their experience sessions.
This half-term they are offering 2 different ‘Halloween Owl Experiences’ which run from the 27th October – 1st November. It’s a lovely well organised experience where your family can meet, handle and fly 4 different species of owls as well as learning about owls worldwide.
Observing these fabulous birds in their natural environment is absolutely wonderful and children really love these fun and educational sessions with Luke and his feathery friends. It’s a unique experience that can be enjoyed by all the family this half-term.
Eastnor Pottery, Home Farm, Eastnor, Ledbury, Herefordshire HR8 1RD
This idyllic pottery studio located in the beautiful surroundings of Eastnor Castle in east Herefordshire has to be one of the friendliest and welcoming places for a family activity session. During half-term Eastnor Pottery are running their ‘Core Strength’ sessions so that families can come and participate in some apple-based clay modelling. The whole family have an opportunity to fashion a ‘superhero apple’ using soft clay.
Your creation could be a Kung foo kicking Granny Smith or an alluring Pink Lady super spy – anything goes! You then get to paint and your amazing creation too! How wonderful is that? It’s a fun session the whole family will enjoy.
Oaker Wood Leisure, nr. Kingsland, Herefordshire HR6 9PT
Set in 175 acres of mature woodland and lakes deep within Mortimer Country, Oaker Wood is always a popular choice with young people and this half-term is no exception with the return of their superb holiday club.
It’s a fantastic opportunity for the younger members of your family to let off steam and enjoy the great outdoors before winter sets in. With a variety of great activities on offer from speeding down zip wires to scaling trees to teen paintball and cooking outdoors. A day at this amazing activity centre is sure to bring a smile to your children’s faces.

Golden Valley Llamas, Old King Street Llama Farm, Ewyas Harold, Hereford HR2 0HB
If you’ve never tried Llama trekking then you really must. This unique experience at Golden Valley Llamas is just amazing and all the family will love it.
Call the llamas in, halter, groom and enjoy their company as you walk through beautiful farmland and Herefordshire countryside together. These fabulous animals are full of character and fun and are old hands at making sure you and your family have an enjoyable time trekking with them this half-term.
Eastnor Castle Grounds and Deer Park, Near Ledbury HR8 1RL
Eastnor is a dramatic, fairy-tale castle situated in a 5000-acre estate in the Malvern Hills within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The castle is surrounded by a beautiful lake, deer park and arboretum, with magnificent views of the rolling Herefordshire countryside.
The Eastnor Halloween trail is open from Sunday 25th October to Sunday 1st November 2020 and families are invited to come and enjoy the spooky activities planned this half-term.
Someone has stolen Gaynor the Ghost’s Halloween Sweets! So why not dress the family up in fun Halloween costumes and follow the clues around the grounds to find out who it was. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy the grounds at Eastnor Castle and have some muddy Halloween fun too.

If you’re looking for a family day out in the great outdoors this autumn, grab the family, slip on your wellies and escape to NT Berrington Hall. There’s a special den building area, fabulous leafy autumn walks through the beautiful parkland and plenty of exciting trails for your young ones to enjoy.
