Battle of Mortimer’s Cross
Visit Croft Castle for a living history weekend full of gunpowder, battles, archery and swordfights, bringing to life one of the most significant battles of the Wars of the Roses, the Battle of Mortimer’s Cross.
In 1461, Sir Richard Croft led his soldiers alongside Edward Mortimer, who later became Edward IV, to a Yorkist victory. They travelled from Croft Castle to the nearby battle site of Mortimer’s Cross, which was then part of the Croft estate.
See the Yorkist and Lancastrian camps in situ, depicting civilian and soldier life with crafts, cooking, period costume, weaponry, dancing, battles and music displays throughout the day.
