Bromyard Hop Festival
Now in its sixth year the Bromyard Hop Festival has become one of the town of festival’s favourite annual events, attracting bigger and bigger crowds each year. An estimated 5000 visitors have lined the pavements in the past to watch the teams of runners labour up and down Bromyard’s main street as they participate in the unique World Championship Hop Pocket Race.
The 2017 Bromyard Hop Festival and World Championship Hop Pocket Race will take place on Sunday the 27th of August. The Festival will fill the streets of Bromyard from 11am to 6pm with sights and sounds for young and old alike. Favourite features such as the rural crafts display in the Courtyard of The Falcon Hotel, the Hop Heritage displays in the Falcon Hotel Mews and the Craft Fair in the Falcon Hotel ballroom, are included again this year.
If you wish to book a table for the craft fair, or a stall for your rural craft please contact jamie@bromyardhopfestival.co.uk Full details are on the Festival website
The theme of Hops celebrates Bromyard’s place at the centre of the country’s biggest hop-growing area, with hop-bines and hop products on sale at the Falcon Hotel and a display of the history of hop-picking and brewing through the years to be provided by the Bromyard History Society. A main attraction of Hop Festival this year will be the parade of vintage tractors and cars which will drive through the centre of Bromyard just after midday, and then park along the main streets so that visitors can get a closer look at these unique vehicles. Throughout the afternoon Bromyard’s Market Square will host a free music festival featuring many top local bands.
The days highlight will be the Hop Pocket races with many classes to suite all abilities and culminating in the fiercely competitive World Championship Hop Pocket where teams race carrying a 75kg Hop Pocket (a large sack used to store Hops), racing starts at approx. 4pm in the Market Square.
