Hereford AppleFest Banquet
To close the 2024 Hereford AppleFest, Hereford City Council will host a pome-themed banquet in the historic Town Hall on Saturday, 12 October at 7pm.
Guests will enjoy a unique, pome-infused menu by Martin Carter, Saxty’s Executive Chef, featuring local ingredients. Each dish will be paired with ciders and perries from top regional producers like Newton Court, Ross on Wye Cider and Perry, Little Pomona, and Oliver’s.
The banquet will be held in the majestic Assembly Hall, known for its ornate ceiling, stained glass, and oak panelling. This special event is expected to book up quickly.
Tickets are £62.50, including a welcome drink, two keynote speakers, a three-course meal with matching ciders, perries, and apple brandy, plus coffee and mints. Vegan, vegetarian, and special dietary alternatives are available.
Keynote Speakers for the Evening:
- Tom Oliver: A renowned cider and perry maker from Ocle Pychard, Herefordshire. He produces a variety of ciders and perries from his own and partner farmers’ fruits, using traditional methods with a touch of modern technology. Tom is also a partner in The London Cider House and co-founder of The Cider Salon in Bristol. He rediscovered the “Coppy” perry pear and is a founder member of the Slow Food Presidium “Three Counties Perry.”
- Jane Peyton: Founder of the School of Booze, Jane is the UK’s first accredited Pommelier and Britain’s first Beer Sommelier of the Year. She initiated Beer Day Britain and has received a Lifetime Achievement award from Britain’s Parliamentary Beer Group. Jane is an author of several non-fiction books, including “The Philosophy of Cider,” which involved extensive research and visits to Herefordshire.
Hereford AppleFest celebrates Herefordshire’s iconic apple heritage from 28 September until 13 October, with 2 weeks of incredible apple-themed events taking place across the County. The festival will commence with the Hereford AppleFest Kick-Off on 28 September, a day full of live music, performances, artisan cider, perry and apple juice, children’s activities and more.
