In Concert – The Hexad Singers
Each year Concerts for Craswall stage three exceptional concerts. 2019 is their 25th Anniversary season promising another thrilling series of concerts.
The Hexad Singers present “My Love She Mourneth: From Despair to Joy” with music by Byrd, Cornish, Debussy, Poulenc and Stanford.
Showcasing gems from the English Renaissance for men’s voices contrasted with 20th and 21st century works, the expansive and richly textured motets of William Byrd will form the backbone for the evening which traces a typically Lenten theme: darkness to light, despair to joy. Works in English from the likes of Matthew Martin and Charles Villiers Stanford alongside the impressionistic French composers Claude Debussy and Francis Poulenc explore the wide-ranging styles for this combination of voices.
The Hexad Singers comprise a group of young male singers from Oxford and Cambridge, where they have sung for the choirs of St John’s College, Cambridge; and both New and Magdalen Colleges, Oxford. Including Herefordshire singer Daniel Gethin, the ensemble’s individual members are much in demand with major professional groups. Amongst others, these exciting young vocalists have performed with The Sixteen, Tenebrae, The Gesualdo Six and Ex Cathedra.
