Nell Gwynne Sessions Whiskey River

The Courtyard’s Nell Gwynne Sessions return this November with an evening of food, drinks and Low-Down Dirty Blues, Cajun and Zydeco music with a dangerous edge.

This autumn The Courtyard looks forward to welcoming the Whiskey River Acoustic Quartet to the Nell Gwynne Studio.

The Whiskey River Acoustic Quartet are made up of Martin Blake, Aiden Sheehan, Dennis Schiavon and Alan Cooper, a pruned down version of the 5-piece electric band. Between them, they play a variety of instruments including guitar, fiddle, Cajun accordion, harmonica, mandolin, banjo, bass, penny whistle and various percussion instruments. In their performances, they play a wide variety of material, much of it being from the Southern states of America, incorporating blues, Cajun, Zydeco, folk and country with a bit of Irish thrown in for good luck. All of this delivered with three-part harmony vocals, this dynamic combination is a good time guaranteed.

Whiskey River originated in the early 90s wishing to explore the music of the French settlers of the Louisiana Swamplands which encompasses Cajun, Zydeco and Creole music and has developed to include acoustic blues and country music, mainly from the Southern states of America. Occasionally there will be hints of Irish and European themes. The band has seen much success over the UK and Europe, in particular at the Raamsdonksveer Cajun and Zydeco festival in Holland.

Guests can enjoy a delicious one course dinner of one of the following from the menu, beef and blue cheese pie, mashed potato, greens and gravy. Or the vegan/vegetarian guests will have the choice of mushroom and blue cheese pie, mashed potato, greens and gravy or mushroom and wholegrain mustard pie, mashed potato, greens and gravy. All prepared by The Courtyard’s Food and Drink team.

The Nell Gwynne Sessions will be in The Courtyard’s Nell Gwynne Studio on Saturday 11 November at 7.45pm. To book tickets, or for more information contact the Box Office on 01432 340555 or visit www.courtyard.org.uk.
