Over the weekend of September 9th & 10th see an influx of Steampunks at Waterworks Museum – Hereford.
Steampunk can be described as Victorian Science Fantasy, so the setting of a Victorian Waterworks full of amazing machinery suits them perfectly. There will be traders selling amazing things from costume, jewellery, accessories, housewares, hats, ray-guns, walking canes, goggles, glasses, pocket watches, vintage items, mead and wicked liqueurs.
Live entertainment will be happening throughout the day, with a line-up that includes a juggling unicycling escapologist, a dandy from New York who teaches steampunk funk dance moves, and musical theatre from Ichabod Steam and his Animatronic Band.
There will also be workshops in making masks for going to the ball, and in painting and primping toy guns to turn them into things of wonder.
The Museum will have their engines “steamed up and running” from 1pm each day, the event is open daily from 12am to 5pm. Usual ‘in-steam’ admission prices apply.
On the Saturday evening there will be a Steampunk Cabaret Show – this is separately ticketed, with tickets at £12 available online and also available on the day at the Steampunk Market or on the gate if any are left. The show is suitable for 12 year olds onwards, with gates opening 7pm and the show starting around 7.30pm. (Accompanied children under 16 free admission)
The line up is fabulous! Master of Ceremonies Greg Chapman will be introducing international superstar of steampunk, all the way from New York, Montague Jacques Fromage, the unique Gurdybird from Cornwall, the incomparable The Wattingers ( from some dark horrible swamp!), the glamorous Lux Delioux, and our headline act for the night, The Retro Clones!
Wear sensible clothes and bring a brolly if the forecast is for showers, the show is outdoors – the bands and the PA etc will be under cover, so the show will go on no matter what the weather, but the audience need to provide their own shelter.
This is planned to become an annual event at the Waterworks Museum, which provides such an amazingly apt setting for steampunks to strut their stuff and enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of steam-powered machinery – come and join in, they are the most welcoming and friendly people, and dressing up is fun and so simple – the basics are in grandad’s wardrobe or the local charity shop, so it is cheap to do as well!
