Herefordshire Life Through a Lens “Stories from the Hop Yards” brims with archive photos, film, and newly-recorded interviews.

Showing as part of the Borderlines Film Festival

Inspired by the rediscovered Derek Evans photographic collection Stories from the Hop Yards brims with archive photos and films alongside newly recorded interviews. A requisite of British beer, with their evocative aroma, hops have been an integral part of county life for centuries. Listen to stories of days past and present from pickers, farmers, traders and brewers. Families would arrive for a working holiday by train, cattle lorry or charabanc. Dinners were cooked over open fires and children picked hops into an old umbrella while their mothers worked at the cribs.

“These photographs are like a time machine allowing us to touch the past, you can smell hear and feel each scene” Exhibition visitor.

Followed by a Q+A with the film makers and guest interviewees.
