The Diary of a Nobody
Don’t Go Into The Cellar! present The Diary of a Nobody at The Courtyard this summer.
Often cited as being one of the funniest novels of the Victorian era, Mr Pooter’s diary has now been adapted for the stage in this new one-man show.
Jonathan Goodwin plays the beleaguered Pooter, a City clerk at odds with the world around him and the butt of jokes he rarely understands. You will laugh and cringe in equal measure as he relates the daily mundanity of his suburban existence with his wife, Carrie, and son, Lupin.
Don’t Go Into the Cellar!’s Artistic Director Jonathan Goodwin has been fascinated with the Victorian and Edwardian eras since childhood, and especially the works of Conan Doyle, Stoker, Stevenson, M R James and their ilk. He always allows his imagination free rein when writing scripts and thinks a degree of artistic licence is allowed when crafting a piece of entertainment, however macabre the subject matter.
14-30 year olds who are a part of The Courtyard’s free membership, Courtyard Card, can get tickets to The Diary of a Nobody for just £5.
The Diary of a Nobody will be in The Courtyard’s Studio Theatre on Friday 7 July at 7.45pm. To book tickets, or for more information contact the Box Office on 01432 340555 or visit www.courtyard.org.uk.
