The Poems and Songs of Henry Hall of Hereford

The Poems and Songs of Henry Hall of Hereford: a Jacobite Poet of the 1690s   is on Wednesday 12 October, 7pm in College Hall

Henry Hall (c. 1656-1707), Organist of Hereford Cathedral and composer of church music, was also a compulsive writer of lively and irreverent verse, a notably convivial local personality, and a fiercely Jacobite opponent of William III and Mary II. This presentation will profile Hall through his prolific poetic output, which was wide-ranging in form and subject: from political songs and satires to lampoons, love poems, drinking songs, and riddles!

Dr Oliver Pickering, formerly Deputy Head of Special Collections in Leeds University Library, is Honorary Fellow in the School of English at Leeds and a Fellow of the English Association. Join Oliver in College Hall on Wednesday 12 October, 7pm, for this talk.

This a Life & Learning talk, tickets cost £10 and can be booked via the website, or by contacting library@herefordcathedral.org or call 01432 374 225/6.
