Three Acres A Cow 1024x600 1

Three Acres and a Cow

Three Acres and a Cow is a history of land rights and protest in folk song and story. They will be performing at The Courtyard this November.

Discovering the history of land, housing and food in Britain is a multi-stranded narrative. On one hand there is the history of enclosure, privatisation and the dispossession of land-based communities and on the other there are the vibrant histories of struggle and resistance that emerged when people confronted the loss of lands, cultures and their ways of life. Three Acres and a Cow bring undocumented literature of the time to the forefront using music and stories of the people from a different time.

The show connects the Norman Conquest and Peasants’ Revolt with current issues such as the housing crisis, reparations, climate breakdown and food sovereignty, drawing a compelling story through the people’s history of England in folk song, stories and poems.

Over the last 8 years Three Acres and a Cow have performed to over 16,000 people in churches, theatres, village halls, pubs, universities, festivals, farms and even online zoom shows during the pandemic. People around the world have seen this performance including those from Australia, Canada, Portugal and Orkney.

Three Acres and a Cow continually attracts a diverse demographic of people, those interested in folk music, storytelling, poetry, history, politics and activism are amongst those who make up the audience for this performance.

Three Acres and a Cow will be in The Courtyard’s Studio Theatre on Thursday 23 November at 7pm. To book tickets, or for more information contact the Box Office on 01432 340555 or visit www.courtyard.org.uk.
