Waterworks Museum Steam Open Day

Steam Day with Stationary Engines Display at The Waterworks Museum – Hereford.

There’s plenty for everyone at this first Steam Open Day of the year:

  • View the working stationary engines on display from the Hereford & District Preservation Society
  • Watch the UK’s oldest working triple-expansion steam engine in operation, as well as historic beam, gas and diesel engines spanning the industrial revolution to present day. Engineers are on hand to tell you all about the engines
  • Enjoy the Play and Learn Water Park where children can learn about water, operate pumps, lift water from a well, push pumps and learn about water filtration
  • Follow the Frog Trail and do the Firefighting and Story of Water quizzes
  • Discover what life was like in Hereford during World War Two
  • Relax in the cafe and enjoy the short walk down to the River Wye

Free admission for Children under 16.

Visitors can see the UK’s widest range of working pumps and engines from across Herefordshire, neighbouring counties and Wales, most of which are the last working examples of their type.  Heritage engineering at its best – and wholly run by volunteers.

The museum is one of Herefordshire’s leading visitor attractions with something for all ages.  Children enjoy using hands on exhibits, including in the unique Heritage Water Park, and the museum has a permanent exhibition to Hereford in WW2.  Every exhibit is waiting to tell a story.
