Flicks in the Sticks Raises Over £11.5K for Ukraine

Flicks in the Sticks, part of the charity Arts Alive, has raised £11,644.57 at their Ukraine Support Screenings this year.

20 rural venues took part in the fundraising efforts, each donating their ticket sales to the cause. The funds have been donated to the DEC Ukraine Appeal.

Flicks in the Sticks runs a network of local promoters who screen films in rural communities across Shropshire and Herefordshire. They facilitate up to 1,000 film events every year in community centres and village halls.

Ian Kerry, Executive Director at Arts Alive and Flicks in the Sticks, said, “It’s testament to the fantastic community spirit that our local Flicks promoters have harnessed over the years, that they were able to raise such a huge amount for the crisis in Ukraine. We are immensely proud of the efforts and generosity of everyone involved.”

Flicks in the Sticks has reached an impressive milestone this year, which is also their 23rd anniversary. Their network of village hall film screenings has welcomed over half a million audience members and over 13,600 screenings in the last 20 years.

Hazel Ockenden who works at Flicks said, “This is an amazing feat considering this has been coordinated by a small team of 2-3 people over the years. “

“Despite public funding cuts and a pandemic, Flicks in the Sticks seems to defy the odds and keep going. We hope people continue to see Flicks as good quality, local entertainment and as an essential community lifeline to feel connected to others.”

Ian Kerry adds, “We have a fantastic season of film lined up in every corner of Shropshire and Herefordshire. Please come and enjoy a community event with high quality film.”
