CORONAVIRUS UPDATE Meadow Arts, National Trust and artist Oliver Jones have decided together to postpone the opening celebration events for new exhibition Skin Deep at Berrington Hall, due to the Coronavirus. To keep people as safe as possible, we think that it’s better not to have a big event at this time. The exhibition will still be open at Berrington Hall, where it looks absolutely stunning. We are working together to extend the time period the exhibition is on, from its May end date further into the summer, and we will hold related events once the situation is resolved. CANCELLED These courses will be held around Linton; a lovely small village with plenty of fields, hedgerows and some wooded areas providing a variety of tasty wild edibles throughout the year. St Mary’s is a beautiful 13th Century church whose churchyard is home to one of the oldest Yew trees in Britain, believed to be well over 1,000 years old. Located on the outskirts of Ross-on-Wye, these courses are within easy reach of Monmouth, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Chepstow and Bristol. We will meet at the Alma Inn, a beautiful village pub in the Herefordshire countryside. The course starts there with a short introduction on what to look for, our foraging code and a brief of the Countryside Act where it relates to foraging. Drinks are available from the pub. Then we’ll set off on a roughly 2.5 hour walk around the village, teaching you how to identify the different plants, flowers, fruits and mushrooms that we find. We will stop along the way for some seasonal homemade refreshments such as our lovely hogweed and wild garlic soup, elderflower champagne or fruit leathers. This year the historic water supplies exhibition at the Waterworks Museum, Hereford focuses on Leominster and will tell the fascinating story of the history of water supply in Leominster. Its water pumping station was built in 1865 after a typhoid outbreak that killed 38 people. 30 years ago, the water pumping station was saved from demolition and rebuilt by volunteers at the Waterworks Museum (now known as our ‘Tangye House’). CANCELLED Ledbury Autumn Foraging Courses are held at the glorious Eastnor Castle near Ledbury These courses will be held around Eastnor Castle Deer Park, a beautiful 300 acre park overlooking Eastnor Castle and the Malvern Hills. Its mixture of parkland and wooded areas provide a variety of wild plants and mushrooms throughout the year. Being on the outskirts of Ledbury, this well situated venue is within easy reach of Malvern, Bromyard, Hereford, Worcester, Ross-on-Wye, Cheltenham and Gloucester. We will meet in the deer park, at the point shown on the map. The course starts there with a short introduction on what to look for and a brief of the general countryside codes, where they relate to foragers. Then we’ll set off on a roughly 2.5 hour walk around the deer park and the castle grounds, teaching you how to identify the different plants, flowers, fruits and mushrooms that we find. We will stop along the way for some seasonal homemade refreshments such as our lovely hogweed and wild garlic soup, elderflower champagne or fruit leathers. CANCELLED Poetry Breakfast is an informal and relaxed way to experience your poetry, whether you are a confirmed poetry lover already, or were put off in the 5th form by having to study it for O level. Whatever your reason for coming, enjoyment is guaranteed as we bring the very best of poetry and share it by simply reading aloud to each other. There are always plenty who like to read so there is no pressure to perform and listeners are very much wanted too, so don’t be shy about joining us. The cost is £8 per person, to include your breakfast and a free coffee refill, and the session lasts about an hour. If you can let us know by the day before if you are coming, that does help enormously with planning, but if you’re last minute, just turn up. We will be delighted to see you. CANCELLED Learn how to make your very own Real Bread from just flour, water, yeast and salt with Peter Cooks Bread. This hands-on workshop will see you elbow deep in dough as you master the art of kneading, while understanding what’s going on inside your dough. We’ll guide you through the basics, step-by-step, with the grand finale of watching your bread rising in the oven. And while we’re at it, we’ll explain just what goes into your average supermarket loaf. Be warned, you’ll never want to go back. Workshops take place in our commercial bakery at The Hop Pocket in Bishop’s Frome. Back by popular demand Steampunk event at the Waterworks Museum, Hereford, now in it’s fourth year offers a weekend of vibrant sound and colour with some fantastic family entertainment from the popular entertainers Mr Alexander and Greg Chapman. Bromyard Festival of Town Criers is a colourful event, hosted by Bromyards champion Town Crier and his Escort. It will take place on Saturday 2 May in the town centre and will feature Town Criers from all over the UK. There will be two sessions when the Criers try to outdo each other for the honours, one session in the morning and one in the afternoon. CANCELLED Outdoor, nature-inspired, child-led play and adventures for under 5s at Queenswood Country Park & Arboretum in association with Wildplay. Come and play in the woodand, learn some fun forest crafts and explore your imagination! We’ll be finding out who lives in the woodland, making up stories, creating homes for creatures and forest folk as well as learning woodland crafts and cooking snacks on the fire.
