Portland House is a spacious Grade 11 listed Georgian House positioned in a village setting within an area of outstanding natural beauty. The house is full of character and charm, on the cusp of three beautiful counties (Herefordshire, Monmouthshire and Gloucestershire) and just opposite Symonds Yat at the edge of the Forest of Dean. There are rural views from most of the seven bedrooms. There is also a room downstairs which, with prior arrangement, can be made into another bedroom for those with accessibility challenges with a well-appointed bathroom next door.
Portland House is ideal for large group gatherings and celebrations including Hen and Stag parties, family get-togethers and with plenty of areas to break away into and make felxible use of the rooms.
The Kitchen has good range of cooking facilities with an aga, eye level double electric ovens and grill, a hob with both gas and electric rings. Plus two microwaves, one of which is convection oven and grill. Fridge/freezer and cupboards containing utensils, equipment, and china sufficient for catering for 20 people.
The utility room contains a dishwasher, and the userful boot room has a washing machine and tumble dryer. With both rooms leading from outdoors these are useful areas for cleaning muddy footwear or doggie paws.
On the first floor – the majestic Monmouth Suite has an unique king size 4 poster bed as well as a Victorian bathroom complete with large roll top bath.
The spacious Hunter Suite, overlooking farmland, has a king size bed and bunk beds for a family of 4, with a large shower ensuite.
Other attractive ensuite bedrooms include the Magnolia Room (triple) ; the Doward Room, (Twin or super king) and the Marstow Room, (double).
On the second floor – The Ross Suite has two adjoining bedrooms to accommodate a family/group of 6. The suite is equipped with TV in each room with DVD as well as traditional pass times such as chess and family games and a doll’s house.
With this range of inclusive accommodation Portland House is considered to be one of the best venues for family and groups and is on local bus routes into Ross on Wye and Monmouth. Excellent nearby amenities include a local shop just across the road which is licensed and has a delicatessen, bakery, post office and serves great coffee. Local pub, restaurant, fish and chip shop are all within walking distance.
