THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED
A Part time Relief Verger is required at Hereford Cathedral.
As members of the small vestry team, vergers are an integral part of the cathedral’s ministry to pilgrims and visitors. They are the first point of contact for many worshippers, visiting choirs, and guests of the Chapter, while their ceremonial, administrative and practical work provides essential support for daily worship and other aspects of the cathedral’s mission. The duties and responsibilities of a verger are varied and wide-ranging, and the requirements are set out fully in the Job Description, Person Specification and Additional Information for this post.
This is a part-time, non-residential position for an additional verger to support the existing team. Full training will be given, so the post could suit a candidate who has already worked as a verger in a parish church and wishes to gain cathedral experience, or a candidate without experience, who is exploring the idea of working as a verger.
Hours: 20 hours per week
There is a shift system covering both weekdays and weekends, and precise working hours vary with the demands of the cathedral’s work. The successful candidate will be required to work early/late shifts and on special out-of-hours activities.
Remuneration: £8,760 pa, excluding overtime. The position is non-residential.
Closing date for applications: Noon on Tuesday 18 June 2019
Interview date: 2 July 2019
