The Annual Ledbury Big Breakfast is a special breakfast event celebrating it’s 8th year. Try something different for breakfast, enjoy a delicious meal to start the day, or buy something special to take home. Part of Music in Quiet Places – A concert of Baroque Music by Maggie Faultless and her ensemble ‘Music for a While’. Prof. Maggie Faultless is Head of Historical Performance at The Royal Academy of Music and a leading authority on 18th Century music. Her ensemble will work with Herefordshire young musicians during the day, and the evening performance by Music for a While will include a programme of Baroque music for all the family. There will be a masterclass during the day followed by the concert in the evening. Margaret Faultless is an internationally renowned specialist in historical performance practice, both as a violinist and a director. Performing music from Monteverdi to the present day, she is now best known as an interpreter of eighteenth-century repertoire. There will also be an organ piece played by the very talented Michael d’Avanzo, an organ scholar in the sixth form at the Cathedral School. Tickets are £10 each and can be found here.
Hereford’s own community Big Band is a collection of musicians: young and old, students and teachers, experienced pros and enthusiastic amateurs. They meet every week to celebrate their passion for the big band swing sound of the 40s, 50s and 60s. Amongst a wide repertoire, the band features music by Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Glenn Miller, as well as more recent arrangements by the likes of Paul Anka, Phil Collins and their musical director Pete Fletcher. Herefordshire Life Through a Lens: The Photos By Catcher Media An exhibition of photographic gems from the Derek Evans archive collection. Focusing on priceless scenes from Herefordshire Life from 1940s-1970s, the exhibition gives people a chance to “get up close and personal” with Derek’s actual exhibition prints created in his studio a few doors down on the third floor of No.43, Broad Street, many of which haven’t been seen for over 50 years, and which still look stunning. The Weir Garden is one of the National Trust’s most beautiful Herefordshire properties, running alongside the famous River Wye. The variety of veteran trees provide the perfect environment for a range of interesting mushrooms and plants to grow. The course starts with a short introduction on what to look for and a brief of the general countryside codes. Then you set off on a roughly 2.5 hour walk around the gardens and along the River Wye, learning how to identify the different plants and mushrooms found. Along the way stop for some seasonal homemade refreshments, such as wild garlic & hogweed soup. After the walk, the day will end with a tasty wild food lunch based on what is found and some pre-prepared homemade treats. After the course, you will receive an email list of everything talked about on the day to help you to remember what you have learnt. These courses will be held around Linton; a lovely small village with plenty of fields, hedgerows and some wooded areas providing a variety of tasty wild edibles throughout the year. St Mary’s is a beautiful 13th Century church whose churchyard is home to one of the oldest Yew trees in Britain, believed to be well over 1,000 years old. Located on the outskirts of Ross-on-Wye, these courses are within easy reach of Monmouth, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Chepstow and Bristol. We will meet at the Alma Inn, a beautiful village pub in the Herefordshire countryside. The course starts there with a short introduction on what to look for, our foraging code and a brief of the Countryside Act where it relates to foraging. Drinks are available from the pub. Families are invited to the Waterworks first Museum Family Fun Day of 2020, where the museum will be open between 12 – 4 pm with activities for the whole family. Whatever the weather, there is something to offer all visitors including family groups with children. The Waterworks Museum traces the history of drinking water from the cave-dwellers up to the present day through wonderful working engines, superb display panels, guidebooks and films and the knowledge shared by the Museum’s volunteers. Classified by English Heritage as “a site of clear national importance”, the Museum is home to the oldest working triple-expansion steam engine in the UK and probably has the widest range of working pumps and engines. Spend a relaxing weekend making pots on the potter’s wheel. The therapeutic benefits of working with soft clay on the potter’s wheel are well documented. Participants often leave the studio on Sunday afternoon feeling totally de-stressed and with an overwhelming sense of well-being. “I feel like I’ve spent a weekend at a health farm!” commented a recent punter. Small friendly groups and eight electric potter’s wheels ensure plenty of individual attention and guidance. You will explore a whole range of making techniques based upon the potter’s wheel including: throwing, turning, attaching handles & motifs and decorating methods using under-glaze and coloured slip. These courses will be held around Linton; a lovely small village with plenty of fields, hedgerows and some wooded areas providing a variety of tasty wild edibles throughout the year. St Mary’s is a beautiful 13th Century church whose churchyard is home to one of the oldest Yew trees in Britain, believed to be well over 1,000 years old. Located on the outskirts of Ross-on-Wye, these courses are within easy reach of Monmouth, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Chepstow and Bristol. We will meet at the Alma Inn, a beautiful village pub in the Herefordshire countryside. The course starts there with a short introduction on what to look for, our foraging code and a brief of the Countryside Act where it relates to foraging. Drinks are available from the pub. Then we’ll set off on a roughly 2.5 hour walk around the village, teaching you how to identify the different plants, flowers, fruits and mushrooms that we find. This year the historic water supplies exhibition at the Waterworks Museum, Hereford focuses on Leominster and will tell the fascinating story of the history of water supply in Leominster. Its water pumping station was built in 1865 after a typhoid outbreak that killed 38 people. 30 years ago, the water pumping station was saved from demolition and rebuilt by volunteers at the Waterworks Museum (now known as our ‘Tangye House’). Participants are consistently amazed at what they achieve in a day! The workshop starts at 10am where you’ll be individually assigned a potter’s wheel for the duration of the workshop. After tea/coffee, introductions and initial demonstration you will be taken as a group, step by step, through the pot throwing process. Once you have got the hang of things, you will be encouraged to develop at your own pace with individual tutoring as and when required. Around 1pm, a lunch consisting of rolls, cheese, ham, salad and fruit is served. The variety of veteran trees provide the perfect environment for a range of interesting mushrooms and plants to grow. The course starts with a short introduction on what to look for and a brief of the general countryside codes. Then you set off on a roughly 2.5 hour walk around the gardens and along the River Wye, learning how to identify the different plants and mushrooms found. Along the way stop for some seasonal homemade refreshments, such as wild garlic & hogweed soup. After the walk, the day will end with a tasty wild food lunch based on what is found and some pre-prepared homemade treats. After the course, you will receive an email list of everything talked about on the day to help you to remember what you have learnt. These courses will be held around Linton; a lovely small village with plenty of fields, hedgerows and some wooded areas providing a variety of tasty wild edibles throughout the year. St Mary’s is a beautiful 13th Century church whose churchyard is home to one of the oldest Yew trees in Britain, believed to be well over 1,000 years old. Located on the outskirts of Ross-on-Wye, these courses are within easy reach of Monmouth, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Chepstow and Bristol. We will meet at the Alma Inn, a beautiful village pub in the Herefordshire countryside. The course starts there with a short introduction on what to look for, our foraging code and a brief of the Countryside Act where it relates to foraging. Drinks are available from the pub. Then we’ll set off on a roughly 2.5 hour walk around the village, teaching you how to identify the different plants, flowers, fruits and mushrooms that we find. It’s a laid-back friendly festival showcasing some of the best sport and single line kites. It’s for kite enthusiasts and for the public to come along and watch – and to bring along a kite and join in. The festival is at Berrington Hall on the lawns leading down to the lake. The next Ross on Wye Carnival takes place on Saturday 1 August 2020. The Carnival Field, which is situated at The Ropewalk will open to the public at 11:00am. Every year the annual procession makes its way around the town’s centre, showing off a magnificent display of floats and fancy dress. Anyone can take part in the carnival, with some great prizes up for grabs. The carnival was revived in 1977 by a dedicated committee in celebration of the Queen’s Silver Jubilee after years of there being no parade in the town. The Herefordshire County Fair is now in its 42nd year and promises a great family day out. This year there will be the usual country fair favourites: terrier racing, working gun dogs, inter hunt relay, scurry racing, clay shooting, fly fishing and a parade of foxhounds. With over a 100 trade stands, the shopping and craft marquee and the fabulous food hall, the fair offers a great shopping experience. The Herefordshire Country Fair will be held at the Whitfield Estate, HR2 9DG. The doors open at 9:30 on what will be a great day of country sport and fun for all the family. There will be equestrian and dog competitions and displays running throughout the day. The Food Hall and the Shopping Marquee offer a great shopping experience. There is also a Motor Village, showcasing the best in new models and the ever popular Classic Car Display. Entertain the children including a fun fair, Punch and Judy and other displays. These courses will be held around Linton; a lovely small village with plenty of fields, hedgerows and some wooded areas providing a variety of tasty wild edibles throughout the year. St Mary’s is a beautiful 13th Century church whose churchyard is home to one of the oldest Yew trees in Britain, believed to be well over 1,000 years old. Located on the outskirts of Ross-on-Wye, these courses are within easy reach of Monmouth, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Chepstow and Bristol. We will meet at the Alma Inn, a beautiful village pub in the Herefordshire countryside. The course starts there with a short introduction on what to look for, our foraging code and a brief of the Countryside Act where it relates to foraging. Drinks are available from the pub. Then we’ll set off on a roughly 2.5 hour walk around the village, teaching you how to identify the different plants, flowers, fruits and mushrooms that we find. We will stop along the way for some seasonal homemade refreshments such as our lovely hogweed and wild garlic soup, elderflower champagne or fruit leathers. The Annual Grand Day Out at The Nest, Near Ledbury – free entry and parking with loads of stalls, activities, music and dance… initially launched as a small food festival nestfest has morphed into a grand day out. h.Art – Herefordshire Art Week features over 100 venues across the County Herefordshire Art Week is a nine day art trail open to all. Artists, craft-makers and creative businesses open their private studios. Galleries put on special events, whilst groups get together to put on one-off exhibitions, in a wonderful mix of interesting venues across Herefordshire. Since 2002 this county wide art trail has taken place every year in the second week of September. h.Art has become part of Herefordshire’s rich cultural calendar, with a huge variety of art and art forms on show in Open Studios, Group Exhibitions and Gallery Events.
