Queen’s Baton Relay To Pass Through Hereford

The Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay will visit Hereford on Tuesday 5 July during its final journey through England this summer.

The schedule of activity for the Baton’s time in Hereford includes:

  • 2.45pm, the Batonbearers will carry the Baton from the Cathedral, onto King Street, Bridge Street, St Martins Street, St Martins Avenue over the Victoria Bridge, through the Castle Green then Quay Street
  • The Baton is expected to arrive back at the Cathedral at around 3.30pm

Events during the afternoon start at 1pm at Bishops Meadows and include a range of family activities including athletics, cricket, martial arts, cheerleading and interactive performances.

There will be nine Batonbearers carrying the Baton through Hereford, including Josie and Cameron who were nominated in recognition of their contributions to the local community and being an inspiration to others.

Josie Pearson MBE from Hay-on-Wye was nominated for outstanding contributions and achievements in sport. Paralympic athlete, Josie represented Great Britain in the 2008 and 2012 Summer Paralympics.

Josie said:

“It’s really exciting and I’m honoured to be nominated as a Batonbearer. The Queen’s Baton Relay is a great opportunity to rally even more community support for the hard-working athletes participating in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.”

Cameron Wood,  who lives in the City, was nominated for his important work in youth leadership and disability rights campaigning. He is Hereford FA Youth Council Chairman and leads the Young Person’s Network in Herefordshire, designed to support young people aged 11-18yrs with disabilities to have an equal voice.

Cameron said:

“I am extremely honoured to be part of the Queen’s Baton Relay and I feel proud to play my part in carrying the Baton on its journey through England.”

Members of the public are encouraged to line the route and get involved with the celebrations, embrace the arrival of the Baton and cheer on the Batonbearers.

To help ensure safety of people involved with the celebrations and lining the route, some streets in the city will be closed to traffic for a maximum of two hours between 2pm and 4pm. Disruption will kept to a minimum with roads being re-opened as soon as possible. Parking restrictions will also be in place. More information here.
