Long established Hereford City venue Saxtys is to officially re-open its Widemarsh Street doors on 20 May 2021 after lying dormant for just under 2 years.
With a clean cosmetic refresh this much-missed stalwart on the City’s social scene will initially focus its offer on a wide range of cocktails and champagnes as well as a comprehensive choice of wines, beers and lagers, to compliment its exciting new restaurant dishes.
Under the new management of Dan Guerche and Steven Harrison, both already seasoned leaders on Hereford’s club and pub scene, Saxtys is set to welcome back guests with their very personal and independent vibe. Chef Martin Carter has created a new and exciting menu for all palates from light snacks to contemporary mains and full roast Sunday Lunches.
One of the main attractions on the casual dining dishes, which is packed with their own meze of Light Plates/Starter sized pick-and-mix combinations, as well as modern British world-food influenced cuisine, is the theatrical ‘Hot Rocks’ steak-on-a-stone experience. Smoking sizzling rocks of stone, heated to 450°, allow your chosen cut of steak to cook in front of your eyes exactly as you like it.
The venue has also developed its outdoor area into a real social hub and have partnered with award winning Dead Man’s Fingers rum producers to create their garden bar, offering Hereford’s biggest selection of rums and rum based cocktails. Through summer there will also be a Carribean style BBQ grill served in this area, perfect for a chilled afternoon on the terrace, or a different taste during a night out.
Another of Saxty’s clever collaborations is that with the Secret Bottle Shop next door. For a small premium, if you have a preferred tipple not currently on the Saxtys bar, they will order it through their retail partner especially for you, giving them an unrivalled choice of beverages and making your visit even more special.
TeamESL was fortunate to get a sneak preview during an informal pre-launch tasting evening, which hosted around 60 local Herefordshire residents for a dining and drinks experience. ESL MD Heidi Chamberlain-Jones commented
“The Starters/Light Plates are really well devised and presented, there is something for everyone and this can make a brilliant pick and mix selection for a group not wanting main dishes, and while nibbling between cocktails. The Hot Rocks steak is a real crowd-pleaser with fun theatre as it arrives noisily sizzling and smoking – a real ‘Ooooh, look at that’ moment”
It’s wonderful to see yet another excellent foodie venue opening in the heart of Hereford to further enhance the City’s gastro appeal. There have never been so many quality places to dine out as there are right now. Let’s welcome and support Saxtys by adding them to your #eatHERE list … we can’t wait to try their Sunday Lunch.
Heidi’s cocktail tip “Try the Hereford Poison – it’s made using local craft spirits and is incredibly fruity”
