Spectacular Launch of the Wye Valley River Festival

A fire and flame spectacular around a ceremonial Giant Samovar heralded the spectacular launch of the Wye Valley River Festival in Hereford on Friday evening and Team ESL who are main sponsors of the festival, were proud to attend the event.

Despite the cold weather,  there was a good sized crowd on Bishops Meadow and refreshments available in the marquee where a relaxed atmosphere was enjoyed by all.

We were entertained by an intriguing cast of river characters, known as The Water Ones. On the banks of the River Wye there was mysterious water rites, circus, aerial dance, comic performance and music from the Wye Valley Festival Choir which preceded a procession of illuminated water creatures and lanterns which heralded the arrival of the Giant Samovar. This is a great tea-making sculpture that’s been specially made in the USA. It’s a focal point of celebrations as this year’s fabulous, free, family festival wends its way down the valley between now and May 15.
