An Invitation to Tea with Sir Edward Elgar
Starting Point: Elgar Statue, Cathedral Close, Hereford
Step into the musical legacy of Sir Edward Elgar with a unique cultural experience in the heart of Hereford. Hosted by the Hereford Guild of Mayor’s Guides, this special event invites guests to explore the city through the eyes and music of one of Britain’s most beloved composers.
Between 1904 and 1911, Elgar called Hereford home, composing some of his most cherished works. This guided walk traces his footsteps through the city centre and along the picturesque river, enriched by musical excerpts and fascinating insights into Elgar’s life and career from modest beginnings to national acclaim.
Following the walk, guests will enjoy a light Afternoon Tea at the elegant Green Dragon Hotel, a favourite haunt of Elgar himself. The experience includes a selection of finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones with cream and jam, and a choice of tea or coffee. Attendees will also have the rare opportunity to view original documents penned by Elgar.
