As SHE Likes It

As SHE Likes It, an electrifying new production inspired by the groundbreaking #MeToo movement, brings to light the forgotten story of Patricia Douglas, a pioneer who suffered in silence during the golden age of Hollywood. With its raw and unfiltered portrayal of the entertainment industry, this production is set to challenge and captivate audiences of all ages. Coming to The Courtyard, Thursday 29 February.

Nearly a century ago, Patricia Douglas fell victim to a deceitful casting call that led her to a studio party she would rather forget. Her story, suppressed for decades, is unveiled in As SHE Likes It, shining a spotlight on one of the biggest scandals to rock Hollywood. Join the Damsel in Distress, portrayed by a remarkable cast, as she emerges as her own knight in shining armour.

Written by Chloe Wade, and supported by Olivier Award-winning playwright Morgan Lloyd Malcolm, known for her work in Emilia and Obsession, As SHE Likes It provides a mesmerizing glimpse behind the romanticized facade of Old Hollywood. Set against the backdrop of sepia cigarette smoke and passionate embraces, the production exposes the relentless sexism and exploitation that have plagued the industry.

Combining live theatre and filmed footage, As SHE Likes It incorporates multimedia, verbatim, cabaret, and drag elements to deliver a punchy, darkly comedic exploration of the entertainment world. This contemporary Brechtian-style play forces audiences to confront the question: How much has changed between the Hollywood of yesteryear and the present?

As SHE Likes It is part of The Courtyard’s Pay What You Decide initiative. Pay What You Decide allows audiences to book tickets for participating shows for free, and then decide what they would like to pay for their ticket after they have watched the performance.

Tickets are available to book in advance as usual, online or via Box Office, but there is no obligation to pay until after the performance. Audiences can then decide on a price which they think is suitable based on their experience. At the end of the show, Stewards will be on the door to take payments via cash or card.

All money collected will help The Courtyard pay the artists who have performed, and the organisation therefore hopes audiences will give generously.

As SHE Likes It will be held in The Courtyard Studio Theatre on Thursday 29 February at 7.45pm. To book tickets, or for more information contact the Box Office on 01432 340555 or visit www.courtyard.org.uk.
