Kids at the Court Summer Camp

Kids at the Court is a summer club for children aged 5 – 11 taking place in the in the safe and inspiriting environment of Barton Court. Children outside these age ranges may be accepted if we have the facilities available.

Combining play with learning to give each child a fun day out that enriches them, they will dance, draw, paint, mess about with mud, toast marshmallows and generally run about in a carefree way while our trained staff keep a careful eye on them.

The day starts promptly at 9.30am when the children are split into age groups and go onto either a dance or art session with their peers. After break, when we give them drinks and fruit, they swap activity. At lunch, they sit and eat their packed lunches and chat about what they have been doing in the morning. Then, rested and refreshed, they have free play for half an hour.

We feel that it is important for them to have the opportunity to decide whether or not engage with the games available during their free time. For example, a group of girls sat chatting and piling up pea gravel rather than take part in rounders. They had not met before and they bonded over this simple activity that they created for themselves. However, more often than not, the children all want to join in group fun- as you can see from the video below.

In the afternoon, they make dens in the fairy glade, go on treasure hunts, fashion crockery out of mud, identify plants and enjoy the lovely grounds that make up Barton Court and then we sit around the camp fire – which the children have learned to light, toasting marshmallows and drinking hot chocolate. It is a busy but happy day.
