The Word On The Street

Strap on your walking boots for this outdoors performance event. Real lives, real stories – see the people of Hereford as you’ve never seen them before.

The Courtyard Theatre in Hereford is teaming up with Feral Productions for a new type of theatre performance, The Word On The Street. On Saturdays 29 June and 6 July, audience members will meet at a secret location in the city centre. As they walk through the city’s beautiful streets, they’ll meet actors along the way and hear an exciting mix of stories from the people who live and work within them.

The Word On The Street is the perfect opportunity to see the city of Hereford in a new light. Small audiences will set off every fifteen minutes, after being given a specially designed map, detailing their route through the city. Along the way, actors will surprise and entrain the groups with performances based on local events and characters. These actors could be dressed as anything – they could be shoppers, security guards, cyclists – so the audience will have to keep their eyes peeled and stay on their toes.

As they travel the route, the audience will see various well-known and lesser-known locations within the city centre. The walk will conclude at The Courtyard, allowing the audience to discuss the event and the discoveries they made along the way in the cafe. The route will be revealed after ticket purchase and will be wheelchair accessible.

The Word On The Street is directed by Feral’s Associate Artist, Ant Stones, and is written by participants of Feral/Open Sky’s The Writing Room. The show will be performed by a combination of professional and community actors. Each piece will be based upon local research and interviews with local residents, giving an accurate and engaging insight into real life within the city today.
