Blackthorn Wassail
Honour the Old Ways with Blackthorn Ritualistic Folk at Newton Court
As darkness descends over Newton Court, the Blackthorn Ritualistic Folk invite guests to witness their annual Wassail; a celebration steeped in tradition and folklore. This enchanting evening promises a vibrant mix of dance, music, and ceremony as the orchard is blessed, the Wassail King and Queen are crowned, and bonfires blaze against the night sky.
The gates open at 5:00 PM, with festivities beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitors will be greeted by mythical folk beasts before Blackthorn performs dances, songs, and tunes outside the Chapel of Apple. From there, a torchlit procession will lead to the old orchard for the main Wassail ceremony. The night concludes back inside the Chapel of Apple with more music and song from Blackthorn’s members.
This magical event takes place at Newton Court in Leominster, Herefordshire, at their licensed venue, The Chapel of Apple. Guests can enjoy homecooked hot food and a selection of beverages, both soft and alcoholic crafted from Newton Court’s working cidery.
