Hampton Gardens
Gardens & Events
“Arguably the most ambitious private garden of our time… and one of the most successful public gardens in Great Britain.”
– Stephanie Donaldson, Gardens Editor, Country Living
Tucked away in the heart of the Herefordshire countryside, Hampton Gardens—formerly known as Hampton Court Castle Gardens—offers a truly enchanting escape for visitors of all ages. This horticultural masterpiece is a celebration of creativity, history, and natural beauty, featuring a stunning array of garden styles and experiences.
Guests can wander through vibrant herbaceous borders, stroll along pleached avenues, and explore the charm of kitchen gardens and island pavilions. A 150-year-old wisteria tunnel leads to sweeping lawns and a whimsical castle-themed play area, making it a magical destination for families.
Throughout the summer, the gardens come alive with special events such as falconry displays and thrilling jousting tournaments. Nature lovers can follow the beautifully illustrated sculpture and wildlife trail, or join the Head Gardener for an insightful tour (Mon & Tues) that delves into the rich history and diverse plant life of the estate.
A highlight for many is the 1,000-yew hedge maze, complete with a gothic tower at its heart offering panoramic views—and a secret tunnel for the adventurous! The River Walk, lined with some of the estate’s oldest trees, offers peaceful riverside paths of varying lengths along the River Lugg. Dogs on leads are warmly welcomed, making it a perfect outing for pet owners.
For refreshments, the Orangery Café, designed by the legendary Joseph Paxton, serves delicious lunches and light bites with breathtaking views of the countryside. On sunny days, ice creams are a must.
