2025 saw fabulous multiple award wins for a long-time family adventure business just outside Brecon. The founders of Black Mountain Adventure only started entering awards a couple of years ago, mostly because like many small businesses – they simply didn’t have the time!
Roll onto 2025, and they have scooped a whole array of trophies including the Family Friendly Award and the Customer Service Excellence Award 2025 from Biz Growth Wales. It was the 10th year of BGW celebrating fabulous Welsh businesses and everything they offer.
In addition to these two, they won a Trip Advisor Traveller’s Choice Award which only 10% of global businesses are given. Another win at the South Wales Business Awards, plus one at the SME Welsh Enterprise Awards for the Best Independent Adventure Company.
Then there have also been finalist places in the 7th Welsh Hospitality Awards, along with a Finalist place at the Mid Wales Tourism Awards and one at the SME UK Enterprise Awards.
Having superb customer service and being family friendly are at the core of a business that is owned and managed by a family itself.

As one of the very first adventure companies in the Beacons, Black Mountain was originally set up by The Durham Family who are still at the helm to this day. They started out offering canoe hire and kayak instruction alongside mountain bike hire & guided trips in the early 1990s. These days Black Mountain offers a whole range of exciting outdoor activities including canoeing, kayaking, rafting, gorge walking, archery, high ropes courses, land karting, mountain biking, abseiling and clay pigeon shooting.
Popular with families, stag & hen weekenders, kids adventure days, youth groups, corporate team building days, couples looking for a more adventurous romantic weekend away, Black Mountain cater for pretty much everyone who wants some outdoor adrenaline and plenty of fresh mountain or river air.
And more are in the offing for 2026 so keep your fingers & toes crossed for them!
