Every September, Herefordshire becomes one enormous art trail as artists, makers, studios and galleries across the county open their doors for Herefordshire Art Week – h.Art.
It’s a brilliant way to explore the county, meet artists, discover studios and exhibitions in unexpected places, and find some wonderful art along the way.
With so much to see, deciding where to start can be the difficult bit.
So, with the help of Canwood Gallery, we’ve put together three incredible Art Routes through Herefordshire.
We’ve pulled together artisits connected with Canwood, other great venues and some great lunch stops with eateries that champion local food and Herefordshire produce. Because a day exploring art deserves a splendid lunch and supper too!
Use the routes as a starting point, linger longer somewhere you love, miss somewhere out, or go completely off-piste.
Opening days and times vary between h.Art venues and restaurants, so please check individual details before setting off. We also recommend booking restaurants in advance where possible.

Leah Wood – An English Summer
A beautiful collection of original works inspired by the flowers, gardens and countryside of an English summer.
Liam Lacey – New Territory
A bold contemporary celebration of farming and the rural landscape – complete with the now-famous New Holland tractor sculpture in the Turbine Hall.
One of the world’s leading international photography exhibitions exploring our planet, its people, landscapes and changing climate.
The Canwood Permanent Collection & Guest Artists
Discover works from Canwood’s permanent collection alongside guest artists Patricia Volk, David Buffrey, Laura Nicholson and Sharon Yorke.

12.15–1.45pm | Sorrel & Sage + Ed Elliott Studio
Venue 103 | HR8 2RA
Stop for lunch at Sorrel & Sage and take the opportunity to meet sculptor Ed Elliott and visit his studio, following his incredible solo exhibition at Canwood Gallery this summer.
It’s a wonderful chance to see where Ed works, discover more about his practice and the stories behind his sculptures, before enjoying a delicious lunch of quality local ingredients at Sorrel & Sage. Their onsite gallery will also showcase a handful of artists as part of h.Art.

2–2.45pm | The Nest
A delightfully unique venue that champions local produce and artisan makers within their deli farm shop – stock up on supplies and treats! Wander through the onsite nursey Botanica Plant Centre and explore the reclaimation area. The Nest will host a variety of artists both downstairs and upstairs.

3–3.45pm | Ledbury & The Design Quarter

You may want to linger for a while in Ledbury which is home to a large collection of participating artists and venues.
6-minute drive
4–5pm | Eastnor Pottery & more
Finish your h.Art trail at the amazing Eastnor Pottery and take in the works by Sarah Monk, Jon Williams and Andrew Findlay.
Make a day of it
Return to, or stay in Ledbury. This small market town delivers big on independent shops, eateries and pubs.
h.Art Ross Route
Start near Ross-on-Wye and make your way through South Herefordshire, finishing the day at Canwood.
11am- 12pm | Wobage Makers Gallery at Wobage Farm
Start your day at Wobage Makers Gallery. Founded in 1977, this creative space will showcase artists alongside live music and homemade cakes under a courtyard canopy.

12.30pm – 1.15pm | Rana Dekki
Visit Canwood artist Rana Dekki and discover more of her work in glass and other media.

1.30pm – 2.30pm | Lunch at The New Inn
HR2 8LQ
Take a break for lunch at The New Inn, St Owen’s Cross, whose changing menus celebrate seasonal food and the best of Herefordshire and beyond.

Continue your h.Art journey with another group of 13 artists showcasing a mix of media to include textiles, mosaics, digital, printmaking and more. From here, continue your journey onto Canwood Gallery.

This exhibition brings together a collection of paintings that explore themes of recovery, resilience, and the transformative power of creativity. Emerging from personal experience, the work reflects a journey through adversity toward renewal and hope.

Stop for lunch at L’Ecole des Amis in Credenhill before continuing your afternoon of art. Offering modern yet tradional French cuisine with a seasonal a la Carte menu, fish specials and fine French wines, all set within a beautifully restored 1885 old school house.

Thursday & Friday evenings: 6–8pm last orders

Alternative lunch stops
If you’re following this route on a day when L’Ecole des Amis is closed – or fancy heading into Hereford – there are some excellent alternatives that also champion local and Herefordshire produce.
Castle House Hotel, Hereford

A particularly lovely Herefordshire option, with seasonal menus and a genuine farm-to-fork approach. Much of the fruit, vegetables, herbs and salads comes from the family’s own Ballingham Hall farm, alongside produce from Herefordshire growers and suppliers.

Another great Herefordshire choice, with a strong emphasis on local, seasonal produce and longstanding connections with the county’s farming and food community.
The Garrick Lounge is open every day from 10am, making this a useful option throughout h.Art. The hotel’s main Hereford Bar & Brasserie serves lunch on Saturdays, with dining options also available through the Garrick Lounge.

Continue the trail with a visit to Woven Art Jewellery.
10-minute drive
3.30–4.30pm | Little Logaston
Finish the planned part of your route at Little Logaston and have a chance to meet Canwood artists and see more work from Frances Warren and Gabriel Parfitt.
