A Bit About Charter Markets
Charter markets in Herefordshire trace their origins back to medieval times when they were established through royal charters. These markets, governed by formal documents issued by monarchs, granted specific rights and privileges. Their deep historical roots make them significant in the economic and social history of these towns.

Many of these market towns boast historical buildings and market squares that reflect their longstanding traditions and the markets continue to support local economies by providing venues for small producers and artisans. Despite their centuries-old heritage, Herefordshire’s charter markets remain vibrant centres of community life and economic activity, adapting to contemporary needs while preserving tradition.
