Herefordshire Black & White Villages
Take a step into Hamnet country – Herefordshire’s Black & White Villages.
Fast becoming famous as the filming location for awardwinning movies like Hamnet, for centuries north Herefordshire has maintained so much of its rich history and none more so than the picturesque villages that have preserved their chocolate box appeal and black and white charm in abundance.
A unique 40 mile round trail of beautiful black and white villages oozes charm and history, each with their own unique stories. Perfect to drive, cycle or even walk. With attractive streams and rivers, picture-book settlements, curious buildings, superb tearooms, pubs, restaurants, galleries and scenic views, the villages are as special today as when they first evolved. The beautiful black and white trail is one of our favourite things to do in Herefordshire. With a wonderful variety of characterful bed & breakfasts or holiday cottages dotted along the way, why not make a weekend of it.

Aphotographer’s dream, this route of some 40 miles takes a beautiful tour through these picture-book settlements and it’s perfect to travel by car or bike. Beginning, if you like, in the medieval market town of Leominster, the villages include Dilwyn, Weobley (pronounced Webbly and where much of Hamnet was filmed), Sarnesfield, Kinnersely, Eardisley and Eardisland (both with a silent i), Kington, Lyonshall and Pembridge. Of course you will have spotted a couple of our market towns within that list, but generally the villages are well-served themselves with a shop, ever-popular tearoom and of course always at least one pub, often more.

Bursting with colour in summer and atmospherically festive in winter, you’ll always find a tearoom, sometimes a gallery, such as Old Chapel Gallery in Pembridge and usually a pretty stream or river with a bench beside; and ideal stop-off for walkers and those looking for some locally made refreshment or an artisan creation.
