On Tuesday ESL was a pleased to host another Hereford City Experience Day, bringing tourism businesses together to explore parts of the city they might not have experienced before. Even the weather was perfect. This was part of our series of Member Experience Days with the aim is to remind tourism providers of what is in their local area, so that they can inspire visitors to explore Herefordshire and enjoy all it has to offer.
Special thanks to those who made it happen at Hereford Cathedral, Hereford Guild of Guides and The Green Dragon Hotel. Their expertise was evident throughout the day.
Hereford Cathedral Treasures:
We were taken on a whistle-stop tour of Hereford Cathedral, exploring the treasures of this beautiful building. As we journeyed through the cathedral, expert volunteers and staff shared fascinating facts about the architecture and artefacts, providing anecdotes on its development over time. From the Mappa Mundi and The Chained Library exhibition to the stunning Cathedral gardens, every part of the tour was enthralling. Have you visited? There are many different events and tours available. Find out more here herefordcathedral.org
Hereford City Walking Tour:
Next, we enjoyed a walking taster-tour of the city, led by the Hereford Guild of Guides. Linda and Angela’s expert knowledge revealed living and lost landmarks and the wider history of the city. More comprehensive guided walks are available every day from Easter to the end of October, starting at Hereford Cathedral. Think you know Hereford? Think again and rediscover this amazing city herefordguidedwalks.org.uk
The Green Dragon Hotel:
Our final destination was the Green Dragon Hotel on Broad Street, where Managing Director Julian was kind enough to take us on a tour of the hotel. Julian shared tales of this historic building and its journey since its relaunch in 2019. The Green Dragon, one of the five oldest hotels in the country, is being transformed into a hub for Herefordshire’s city and county life under Julian’s management. Every area of the hotel has been renovated and portrayed in a specific palette of colours to enhance the atmosphere and comfort for everyone. The day ended with a delicious cream tea in the Green Dragon’s Hereford Restaurant, which was very welcome after our earlier tours.
