The Old House Hereford
Historic Museum
Step back in time with a visit to the Old House, a beautifully preserved 17th-century timber-framed house in the heart of Hereford. This iconic building offers a captivating glimpse into Jacobean life, standing proudly as a reminder of the city’s rich past.
Built in 1621, the house began as a butcher’s shop and residence before taking on various roles, including a stint as a Lloyds Bank in the 1920s. Since becoming a museum in 1929, it has delighted visitors with faithfully re-created rooms, original 17th-century furniture, and everyday items that reveal how people lived, worked, and relaxed over 400 years ago.
Visitors of all ages find themselves immersed in the period by trying on replica clothing and exploring the unique details of each room – including testing out an authentic bed from the era! For those staying on the ground floor, an engaging virtual tour and tactile displays ensure everyone can experience this journey through history.
Come and discover this historical gem in the heart of Hereford.
